General Opt Out

Ability/Power Opt In
This can also double as plotting, if you want!

HEALING: The Stranger is capable of healing physical wounds in people, animals, and other living beings, by resting his hands on their body. Depending on the severity of the injury, this can take significant time, focus, and energy. This likely applies to poisons, toxins, and possibly even magic, depending on your OOC preferences. Theoretically, even 'undead' entities may be affected, given the existence of Force ghosts, although it would be a significant stretch and up to your discretion.

ENERGY ABSORPTION: Defense against impacts. He appears capable of absorbing a blaster shot that, while partially dissipated by special equipment, also across his unarmored upper body. This protection is likely minimal, and would require him to be conscious to use it.

LIFE/PRESENCE DETECTION: Even—or especially—in a state of sensory deprivation, the Stranger has strong access to the Force, and can detect the presence of nearby entities and environmental factors, even in a fast-paced or life-threatening situation. This is a fairly short range ability, similar to vision and hearing, as opposed to something that can operate from miles away. In Saltburnt, the Force has some strange patterns and interference in it. He can have trouble detecting your character at our convenience.

TELEPATHY: The Stranger can detect thoughts and emotions, generally superficially. With more effort, he can look deeper into the minds around him, detecting motivations, nuanced emotional conflict, and active recall. He has some mental defenses, but minimally, his presence (i.e., the presence of his mind) can easily be detected by highly proficient mentalists, as seen in the season finale. He can also send thought 'messages' (i.e., his voice in your character's head) and manipulate others into being more amenable to suggestion.

TELEKINESIS: He can move objects with his mind, and has been able to throw around eight likewise telekinetic individuals at once. However, this is always mediated by hand gestures, at least small ones (e.g., the crook of a finger). He also apparently uses telekinesis to enhance his jumps, punches/strikes, and to soften his falls or appear to even 'float' in the air.

Opt In/Out Form

Comments will be unscreened unless you request otherwise.

As a general note, even though he is clearly over-powered in some contexts, the Stranger is likely not on par with titular Star Wars characters, like Darth Vader, Rey, Ahsoka Tano, or Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is particularly true when he does not have access to his lightsaber and helmet. If you want to beat him up or kill him, I'm happy to work on it with you!

Please note that, even if you opt in, I will most likely check with you during scenes in the subject header or via Plurk/DM/PM. That being said, there's one more power that will only be used if you explicitly plot with me for it—

By Request Only

Memory removal: In canon, he erases years of memories from a character's mind, so thoroughly that a powerful Jedi cannot undo it. This power requires extreme focus and is best done with a willing participant and explicit OOC cooperation, but it's listed here in case it's useful for plotting.

Healing: yes!

Energy absorption: this could be fun, yes!

Life/presence detection: yes!

Telepathy: she's not going to be pleased but he's free to try, just ask me for specifics when it comes to scenes. anything within her canon is fair game.

Telekinesis: yes but she'll REALLY hate this.

Other notes/requests: baby let the games begin

Healing: y sure!

Energy absorption: definitely, for kinetic attacks! depending on how much of her energy he's actually taking into his body, this has a history of being poisonous, but ymmv on how much you want to play into that.

Life/presence detection: yes!

Telepathy: sort of y! most of what people receive is an impression of something enormous and akin to a neophyte star. her actual thoughts are mostly inaudible, stored behind brown noise. listening to it too long may feel a little like something is about to jumpscare you, but sometimes a word will blip in, like a radio mostly out of range. he may sense that this is not a consciously built barrier and has probably existed since she was born; all witches of her particular brand have this resistance, so it isn't special.

Telekinesis: yes! she has a little bit of this too. let's tk stuff around

Other notes/requests: her tk is not particularly expansive or powerful but it does have excellent fine motor control, and she could braid his hair with it.

Character Name(s): august, elias, yeko, saber

Healing: Y for all except elias bc he heals on his own ;)

Energy absorption:
august - y, but this could result in damage to the stranger and is up to you how much! august is made up of and has access to a ton of dark magical power that can be overwhelming to those around him.

elias - y! he's got a mean hook and intensive stamina but that's it.

yeko - y for psychic/magic & tk abilities, and we can talk about this more if it ever comes up. in her fox form, her powers are pretty intense and she might break through the stranger's absorption. in her human form she's still p powerful, but might struggle more. i'm here for what's fun, so we can hash things out! ♥

saber - he's gross and u never want to be in a fight with him ever. disgusting. will use his ability to get the upper hand. if the stranger absorbs an ability strike, it might become a gross recycling system. idk we can talk about this lmf
Life/presence detection: y for all w special flavor: august will sense this and knock back, elias will have a vague idea of this and the seraphim will be looking at u too stranger, and yeko might send an illusion or two his way with some version of an annoying "hello!"

Telepathy: y for all:
august - has little issues with telepaths but approaches them with the "you really don't want to be in here" deal. and they don't! there's a lot of feelings of guilt, death, and a sense of a ticking doomsday clock. lots of whispers in archaic languages, like there's something else inside of him that isn't him, having been someone to dabble with conjuring so much the portal to another space seems to stay open. parents. friends. he's a good example of you look into the dark and the dark looks back. the stranger might experience paranoia or nightmares if he spends too much time poking around

elias - a knock to enter deal, and even then it's like his mind is a stark one way path of opaque glass. the stranger would be granted access to next to nothing aside from basic two way communication. he'll notice "holes" in elias' memory if he looks hard enough. any suggestions will earn some neg cr if ever found out and a perma-block from headspace.

yeko - one thing he'll notice is she's around 100! lots of wisdom in her. she'll have so much fun with this and make this as difficult as possible. lots and lots and LOTS of imagery, organized but messy. think of howl's room in howl's moving castle. everything has its place but it makes zero sense and she's probably doing this on purpose. let's discuss this so i don't continue to tl;dr u

saber - ok. ex CIA sleeper spy in russia, now working for multidimensional cosmic horror entity. a big black hole, his memory is super unreliable, and it's not "missing" like elias, more like memories overlap so much they get confusing, or some were swapped into others. like yeko, he's 100ish years, but his sanity is questionable. the stranger will get feelings of insatiable hunger, bloodlust, and sex. he's trained against telepaths and consequences for the mind-reader are negative, visceral thoughts that he puts on repeat like a fucked up movie reel. this can be extra nauseating, but he's fine with two-way communication!
Telekinesis: y for all

Other notes/requests: sorry i tl;dr u

Character Name(s): Josias di Jaconissa, John Murphy, Mara Sov, Takeshi Kovacs

Healing: Josias has a lump of Fade magic in his hand that is technically very slowly poisoning him, so I'd want to specifically plot anything to do with that, otherwise a general yes for all of them.

Energy absorption: General yes for the boys. Mara's capable of generating up to stellar core levels of energy (though is extremely unlikely to do so in Salt) so it would depend on how hard she's attacking him, she will likely be able to overwhelm/overload any absorption defences very easily once she's aware of them.

Life/presence detection: Yep! Mara will be able to sense it but probably won't be bothered (and cloaking her existence takes waaaay more work than it's worth in Salt).

Telepathy: Details I'd prefer to discuss in-scene! General ability, gonna do this character-by-character:

Josias - no telepathic aptitude, go nuts. Might be weird to try suggestion on, a bit like trying to push water, but no true resistance.

Murphy - has a non-sapient alien symbiote in his brain which is telepathically connected to a hivemind, except the connection is so strained and distant that it might as well be cut entirely. The symbiote is in constant distress because of this, which means Murphy suffers from chronic mental/emotional pain, a bit like perpetually feeling a limb being pulled off. From an outside telepath's perspective, it probably "sounds" like constant screaming or something equivalent. He otherwise has no inherent telepathic ability, but from his hivemind experience, he has aptitude enough to tell when someone's actively poking in his head, and is capable of putting and keeping up reasonably strong mental walls. He's also very used to and outright misses telepathic connection, so positive CR with him would have him very open and welcoming of this.

Mara - knock first or she'll squish you :)

Kovacs - no telepathic ability, but his awareness and control of his mind means he can make it very difficult to move around or find anything you want in there once he's aware you're looking. Incredibly high resistance to suggestion.

Telekinesis: Yep! Though Mara can do it back, and I'd recommend checking in with Murphy first before fun/sexy use, at least the first time.
